Sunflower Seeds

High protein crunch for trail mix, salads, and baking your everyday pantry staple.

What it is

Sunflower seeds are the edible kernels from sunflower heads, harvested after the bright yellow petals fall away. These hulled seeds have had their black-and-white striped shells removed, leaving just the tender, nutrient-rich kernel inside.

Flavor and texture

Mild, nutty flavor with a tender yet slightly firm bite. Raw seeds have a clean, earthy taste that becomes richer and more pronounced when toasted.

Best uses

Eat straight from the jar, sprinkle on salads or yogurt, mix into trail mix, add to granola or muffins, or use as a crunchy topping for soups and grain bowls.

Storage & freshness

Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry pantry or refrigerator.

High oil content makes sunflower seeds prone to rancidity when exposed to heat, light, or air for extended periods.

Cooking tip

Toast them in a dry skillet for 2-3 minutes until lightly golden to bring out their nutty flavor and add extra crunch to any dish.

Interesting note

Sunflowers actually track the sun across the sky throughout the day when they're young, but once they mature and produce seeds, they face east permanently.
