Sliced Almonds

Adds instant crunch to salads, yogurt, and baked goods as your go-to topping staple.

What it is

Sliced almonds are whole almonds that have been blanched to remove their brown skins, then cut into thin, flat pieces. They come from the same almond trees as whole almonds but are processed specifically for easy incorporation into recipes.

Flavor and texture

These have a mild, sweet, nutty flavor and a delicate crunch that's lighter than whole almonds. When toasted, they become golden and develop a richer, more buttery taste.

Best uses

Sprinkle on salads, yogurt, or oatmeal; fold into muffin and cake batters; toast and add to green vegetables; use as a garnish for fish or chicken; mix into homemade granola or trail mix.

Storage & freshness

Store in an airtight container in a cool, dark pantry away from heat sources.

Durations are for best quality. Safe to consume longer if no spoilage signs present.

Signs of spoilage
rancid smellbitter tastedarkened coloroily appearanceinsect activity

Sliced almonds have more surface area exposed to air and light than whole almonds, making them more prone to rancidity from natural oils.

Cooking tip

Toast sliced almonds in a dry skillet for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly, to bring out their flavor and add extra crunch to any dish.

Interesting note

Sliced almonds toast much faster than whole almonds because their thin shape exposes more surface area to heat, making them golden in just minutes.
