Sucanat

Retains natural molasses for richer flavor in baking and coffee sweetening everyday staple.

What it is

Sucanat stands for 'Sugar Cane Natural' and is made by extracting juice from sugar cane, then heating and drying it without removing the molasses. Unlike white sugar, it keeps all the natural minerals and flavor compounds from the original cane.

Flavor and texture

Has a deep, complex sweetness with hints of molasses and caramel. The texture is granular like brown sugar but slightly coarser, and it doesn't clump as much.

Best uses

Excellent in chocolate chip cookies, gingerbread, coffee cakes, and anywhere you want extra flavor depth. Works well in marinades, barbecue sauces, and for sweetening coffee or tea.

Storage & freshness

Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry pantry.

Durations are for best quality. Safe to consume longer if no spoilage signs present.

Natural cane sugar that retains molasses content, making it more susceptible to moisture absorption and clumping than refined sugar.

Cooking tip

Replace white or brown sugar with sucanat cup-for-cup in most recipes, but expect a slightly stronger molasses flavor and deeper color in your finished baked goods.

Interesting note

Sucanat is made using traditional sugar cane processing methods that date back centuries, where the cane juice is simply heated and dried without refining out the natural molasses.
